Veenpark

Veenpark in Emmen, Drenthe, is the largest open-air museum in the Netherlands, spanning 160 hectares near the village of Barger-Compascuum. Dedicated to the rich peat-digging heritage of the Drenthe region, the museum recreates historic village life through authentically restored houses, workshops, working windmills, and live demonstrations by costumed craftspeople including peat cutters, bakers, clog makers, and grocers. Visitors can ride a narrow-gauge railway through a demonstration peat bog and a reconstructed workers' village, and explore the on-site Harmonium Museum free of charge. A large children's playground called Speulland adds family-friendly recreation to the cultural program. Open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM, Veenpark offers a deeply engaging blend of history, culture, and outdoor exploration for families and heritage enthusiasts alike.
