Esashi Fujiwara Heritage Park

Esashi Fujiwara Heritage Park, known in Japanese as Esashi-Fujiwara no Sato, is an expansive open-air historical theme park located in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Originally constructed in 1993 as an authentic filming location for an NHK historical television drama, the park recreates a magnificent Heian-period city modeled on 12th-century Kyoto and Hiraizumi, the cultural seat of the powerful Oshu-Fujiwara clan. Covering 20 hectares and featuring 120 meticulously crafted buildings, the park has since attracted film and television productions as well as thousands of visitors. Guests can don Heian-era costumes and samurai armor, handle replica swords, enjoy a formal kimono dressing experience, and try traditional archery at the Seicho Hall. The park is accessible via shuttle from Mizusawa-Esashi Shinkansen Station and offers a vivid and immersive encounter with Japan's feudal heritage.
