Tierpark Rosegg is Carinthia's largest animal park, established in 1970 and set within the grounds surrounding a historic castle hill in the scenic Rosental Valley, just five minutes by car from Velden at Lake Wörthersee. Home to around 300 animals representing 35 species, the park offers close-up encounters with native and exotic wildlife, including deer, ibex, lynx, golden jackals, kangaroos, llamas, and the distinctive Zackelschaf with its long twisted horns. At the top of the castle hill, a free-roaming area allows visitors to walk among the animals in an open setting. A small petting zoo, a children's playground, and a feeding area let families interact directly with friendly animals including sheep, goats, donkeys, and guinea pigs. A labyrinth adds an element of playful exploration, while an on-site buffet provides refreshments. The park is open daily from April to November, making it a popular family destination in southern Carinthia.
